Urgent: N59 Road Improvement Works Near Oughterard Set to Begin
BREAKING: Progress has accelerated on the N59 improvement works just outside Oughterard, with major developments occurring this week. As of late October 2023, Galway County Council submitted crucial changes to planning conditions to an Coimisiún pleanála, a vital step toward resolving lingering issues in the approvals process.
This new plan has garnered the backing of both the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Inland Fisheries Ireland, two entities that previously posed significant hurdles for planners. Their support is expected to fast-track the commencement of roadworks, which will include essential updates such as road realignment, improved drainage, excavation, demolition, and new road markings and signage along the N59 between Bunakill and Claremount.
Local officials, including Deputy Connolly, are pressing for an expedited decision from the planning authority to avoid further delays. “We cannot afford to let this process drag on any longer,” Connolly stated, emphasizing the need for swift action to enhance road safety and infrastructure for the community.
Why does this matter NOW? The improvement works are crucial for enhancing safety and accessibility on a busy route that serves both local residents and visitors. The urgency of this project reflects broader initiatives to upgrade road conditions across the region, ensuring safer travel during peak seasons.
Next, all eyes will be on the planning authority as they evaluate the submitted changes. Community members and local businesses are hopeful for a rapid response, which would mark the beginning of much-needed enhancements to the N59.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as it unfolds. The community’s anticipation is palpable, and the call for action is louder than ever.
