BREAKING: A possible tornado has wreaked havoc near Drogheda, Co Louth, leaving significant damage in its wake. Eyewitnesses reported the terrifying phenomenon around 9:30 AM today, just after a stretch of good weather. The Irish Meteorological Service (Met Eireann) has also issued warnings for unsettled weather conditions across the region.

Footage shared by meteorologist Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather captures debris and bins scattered throughout Drogheda, confirming the strength of this weather event. “Reports of possible tornado [yesterday] morning in Drogheda around 9:30 AM,” O’Reilly stated. “I’ve had three reports which include damage to a number of homes.”

Residents described the experience as “really frightening,” with one witness recalling, “The wind all of a sudden took up…literally like a tornado! It blew through the house, pulled front windows off hinges, and blew pots and bins over.” Another added, “We had awful damage and winds we have never experienced.” The intensity of the weather left many in shock as they surveyed the aftermath.

“Only lasted probably for less than a minute but was actually really, really frightening,” one local shared.

As the storm passed, reports surfaced of severe damage to several homes, with eyewitness accounts of debris strewn across gardens and streets. This unexpected weather event has raised concerns about the safety and preparedness of local residents.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann has announced a shift towards unsettled weather across Ireland, attributing it to low pressure moving in from the Atlantic. “It’s going to be a generally cloudy and wet start today,” meteorologist Matthew Martin stated, predicting outbreaks of rain and possible thundery downpours.

The forecast for today indicates temperatures ranging from 16C to 20C. While some areas may enjoy drier conditions, parts of the southwest are expected to remain cloudy and showery.

Tomorrow, rain is set to spread across southwestern counties, while the rest of Ireland may experience sunny spells. Highs are expected between 17C and 22C. As conditions evolve, the weather is projected to improve towards the weekend, with sunny spells anticipated on Sunday.

Residents are urged to stay informed as the situation develops. Local authorities are assessing the damage and ensuring safety measures are in place. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story.
