Urgent Recall: Salmonella Risk Prompts Turmeric Powder Withdrawal
UPDATE: An urgent recall has been issued for specific batches of AliBaba Haldi Powder, a popular turmeric spice, due to Salmonella contamination fears. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) announced this alarming news just hours ago, warning that affected consumers could face serious health risks.
The FSAI confirmed that the implicated batches of AliBaba Haldi Powder bear the batch code 080824 and a best before date of 22.04.2026. Households across Ireland are urged to check their kitchens immediately and refrain from using this product. The recall comes as health officials emphasize the critical nature of the situation, given turmeric’s widespread use in homes for cooking, wellness, and beauty treatments.
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection can manifest between 12 and 36 hours after exposure, although some cases may take up to 72 hours to appear. Common signs include severe diarrhea, fever, headache, and abdominal cramps, with the illness typically lasting between four to seven days. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, infants, and those with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk for severe complications.
Stores carrying the affected AliBaba Haldi Powder, including major retailers, are displaying recall notices to inform customers. The FSAI advises all retailers, market stalls, and online sellers to remove the product from shelves and halt any sales immediately. Restaurants and catering services are also instructed to cease using the recalled batches.
This recall follows another urgent alert issued earlier this week regarding popular baking products sold in major supermarkets, including Dunnes Stores, Aldi, Tesco, and SuperValu. The FSAI reported concerns over potential contamination with plastic pieces in specific batches of Desiccated Coconut imported from Indonesia, further raising alarm over food safety standards.
As consumers take precautions, the FSAI continues to monitor the situation closely. Authorities are actively investigating the source of the contamination and will keep the public updated on developments.
Stay alert and ensure your pantry is safe. Check your labels and share this critical information with friends and family to prevent potential health risks.
