The incident occurred near Killaloe, Co Clare, on May 31, 2023, around 5 PM. Eyewitness accounts confirm that the Sea-Doo RXT X 300 jet ski, capable of reaching speeds of 108 km/h, was performing dangerous tricks before capsizing. Moran, who could not swim and lacked proper training, tragically gave away his personal flotation device to a passenger before the accident.

The MCIB’s investigation highlights critical safety violations, stating that jet skis must not exceed 5 km/h within 200 meters of bridges or moored vessels.
