Urgent: UHG Menopause Clinics Closed for 4 Months, 300+ Waiting
URGENT UPDATE: University Hospital Galway (UHG) has confirmed that it has not held in-person complex menopause clinics for a staggering four months from April to July 2023. This alarming hiatus has resulted in the waiting list for the clinic surging beyond 300 patients, with more than half of these women waiting over six months for essential care.
The hospital’s management attributes the absence of in-person clinics to a lack of clinical governance during this period. While online clinics continued, the frequency did not increase to accommodate the growing demand, leaving many women struggling to manage serious medical conditions associated with menopause.
Dr. Evelyn Parsons, an independent councillor, has labeled this situation “unacceptable,” emphasizing the urgent need for accessible healthcare services for women experiencing menopausal symptoms. The lack of in-person support has raised significant concerns among patients and healthcare advocates alike, highlighting the emotional and physical toll of prolonged waiting periods.
As the demand for menopause management rises, the hospital’s inability to provide adequate in-person care remains a pressing issue. Women facing debilitating symptoms are left without the necessary support, exacerbating their health challenges during this critical phase of life.
What happens next remains uncertain, but community advocates and officials are calling for immediate action to restore in-person clinics and address the overwhelming backlog of patients. Authorities are under increasing pressure to provide solutions that ensure timely access to healthcare services.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as pressure mounts for UHG to take action and provide the necessary support for women in need.
