Urgent Update: 65,000 Students Receive Leaving Cert Results Today

UPDATE: Over 65,000 Leaving Cert students are receiving their results today, August 22, 2023, with significant changes in grading impacting their futures. The results will be available at 10 am from the Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP), marking a pivotal moment for 65,444 students across Ireland.
This year’s results reflect a shift in grading policy, with a noted 2.6% decrease in the number of top honours (H1s) awarded, dropping to 11.7% compared to 14.3% in 2024. The impact of points deflation is evident as the percentage of grades inflated has fallen to 52.4%, a significant decline from 68% last year and 71% in 2023. This change comes as part of a commitment made by former Minister for Education Norma Foley to gradually reduce inflated grades and return to pre-pandemic standards.
The decision to lower grade inflation is crucial, as it affects not only current students but also previous cohorts who may benefit from their inflated results. As students turn their attention to the CAO offers, set to begin on August 27 at 2 pm, concerns arise regarding the competitive landscape for college placements.
Students can access their results using their CSSP password, exam number, and PPSN. Following today’s results, the CAO process will unfold, with offers being made via email or text. The timeline for CAO offers includes:
– **Round 1:** August 27 at 2 pm
– **Round 2:** September 8 at 2 pm
– **Round 3:** September 16 at 2 pm
– **Round 4:** September 23 at 2 pm
– **Final Round (Round 5):** September 30 at 2 pm
With a 7.4% increase in students sitting the Leaving Cert compared to last year, the educational landscape is rapidly evolving. The number of candidates taking honours papers has also risen to 72% from 68% in 2019, suggesting a more competitive environment.
As students await their results, emotions run high. This moment is not just about grades; it represents aspirations, future opportunities, and the culmination of years of hard work. Students are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for the upcoming CAO process as they navigate the next steps in their educational journey.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops, and good luck to all students receiving their results today!
