Urgent Update: Elderly Man Dies After Assault in Tipperary
UPDATE: An elderly man in his 80s has tragically died just days after suffering a horrific assault in Tipperary town. The incident occurred on September 12 at approximately 9:35 PM on St Michael’s Avenue, leaving the victim critically injured. He was receiving treatment at University Hospital Limerick until his passing was confirmed by Gardaí this morning.
Authorities have alerted the local coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist regarding the situation. A post-mortem examination is expected to occur in the coming days to determine the specifics surrounding the man’s death.
A suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested over the weekend and is currently in custody under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. A Senior Investigating Officer is spearheading the ongoing inquiry, while a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to assist the victim’s grieving family.
The area where the assault occurred has been sealed off for technical examinations and investigators are actively seeking witnesses. Gardaí issued an urgent appeal for anyone who was in the St Michael’s Avenue area between 7 PM and 10 PM on that fateful Friday to come forward, particularly those with video footage that could aid the investigation.
