Urgent Update: Multiple Deaths in Kilkenny Prompt Community Grief
UPDATE: The Kilkenny community is reeling from a wave of recent deaths, as several families mourn their loved ones. In a heartbreaking series of announcements, Seamus Byrne, Johnny Cody, Raymond Lazenby, and others have passed away, leaving a profound impact on the local community.
The sudden death of Seamus Byrne, formerly of 43 Larchfield, Kilkenny, has left his family devastated. His wife, Eileen, and children, Tara-Louise, Conor, and Kyle, are mourning the loss of a cherished husband and father. Seamus is also remembered by his parents, Ted and Kitty, and siblings. Funeral arrangements are pending.
In Thomastown, the community is mourning the peaceful passing of Johnny Cody, who died at his residence on December 1, 2025. He is survived by his children Sinead, Ailish, Eoin, Ída, and Antoin, along with numerous grandchildren. His funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on December 3 at The Church of The Assumption, followed by burial at St Mary’s New Cemetery, Thomastown.
Additionally, Raymond Lazenby, who was known for his warmth and humor, passed away suddenly. He leaves behind his daughters, Aoife and Emily, and is remembered fondly by his family and friends. Details regarding his funeral arrangements are forthcoming.
The death of James (Jim) Maher has also been confirmed. He passed away peacefully at St Columba’s Hospital on November 28, 2025. Funeral arrangements are still being finalized.
In Ballyragget, the community is grieving the loss of Anne Moylan, who passed away on December 1. Anne is survived by her children and grandchildren. She will be reposing at Moran’s Funeral Home, with a requiem mass scheduled for 11 a.m. on December 3.
Another loss felt deeply is that of Mark Grace, who died unexpectedly on November 27. He is survived by his parents and partner, and his funeral will be held on December 3.
As these families navigate their grief, the community is rallying around them, offering condolences and support. There is a growing call for donations to local charities in memory of those lost, emphasizing the enduring impact these individuals had on their loved ones and the wider community.
