Urgent Vigil Held for Daniel Aruebose After Remains Found

UPDATE: A heartfelt vigil took place in Donabate, Co Dublin, to honor Daniel Aruebose, after authorities confirmed the discovery of human remains believed to be his. Concerns for Daniel were first raised by the child and family agency Tusla on August 29, 2023. Following an extensive search, Gardaí uncovered human skeletal remains last week in an area of open ground in Donabate. While formal identification and DNA analysis are pending, authorities are treating the remains as belonging to Daniel.

On Sunday, community members gathered at Donabate Green, lighting candles and releasing blue and white balloons in memory of the young boy. The vigil was a significant outpouring of grief, with many in attendance visibly emotional. Local Labour councillor Corina Johnston attended the event, stating it was organized by senior citizens to provide support to the community during this devastating time.

“It has been a very tough couple of weeks,” Johnston expressed. “Donabate is a very close-knit community, and the turnout for Daniel was overwhelming. People were crying, and we all wanted to support each other at a very difficult time.”

The location of the discovered remains is near a sports complex, a site familiar to many in the community. Johnston noted that discussions regarding a potential memorial for Daniel are already underway, emphasizing that it’s a conversation to be had in the days and weeks ahead.

“I went down there to lay flowers and met many others who were visibly upset,” she added. “This whole situation is a terrible tragedy.”
