West of Ireland Wins Bid to Host EuroPride 2028, Historic Event Ahead
BREAKING: The West of Ireland has officially secured the rights to host EuroPride 2028, marking a historic milestone for the nation as it prepares for Europe’s largest LGBTQIA+ celebration. Limerick and Clare will welcome tens of thousands of visitors, activists, and allies from across the continent in what promises to be an unforgettable display of inclusivity and pride.
This significant announcement was made following a decisive victory at the EPOA annual conference held in Barcelona over the weekend, where the West of Ireland’s joint bid, represented by QuareClare, Limerick Pride, and The Outing Festival, garnered an impressive 70% of the votes cast by over 120 member organizations.
This momentous event is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time Ireland will host EuroPride, a title previously held by Manchester Pride in 2003. Organizers shared their excitement on EuroPride’s Instagram page, stating, “The event will give voice and visibility to smaller Prides and LGBTQIA+ communities across Ireland and Europe, ensuring that every community — rural or urban — is seen, heard, and represented.”
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local leaders, including John Moran, Mayor of Limerick, who expressed his pride in the achievement. “I welcome this landmark event as a recognition of our spirit, our inclusivity, and our commitment to equality,” Moran stated. “As host, we will celebrate diversity, promote visibility, and forge new connections among LGBTQ+ communities and supporters.”
Moran further emphasized the event’s importance for individuals questioning their identities, saying, “It is saying to every kid and adult who may be asking the question to themselves, that they are welcoming in the inclusive Limerick and Clare that we are continuing to build.”
As preparations unfold, officials will focus on creating a vibrant atmosphere that showcases the rich culture and diversity of the region. The event promises not only to be a celebration but also a platform for activism and community building, fostering connections that extend beyond the festival.
Stay tuned for updates as more details about the event are revealed, including dates, activities, and how to participate. This is a developing story that is set to shape the future of LGBTQIA+ visibility and celebration in Ireland and across Europe.
