Will Leahy Exits Rose of Tralee After 20 Years, Carl Mullan Steps In

BREAKING: In a stunning announcement, popular broadcaster Will Leahy has confirmed he will no longer serve as the announcer and social media presenter for the Rose of Tralee after an impressive 20 years. This news, shared via his social media account on July 28, 2023, marks the end of an era for the beloved figure from Limerick.
Will expressed his heartfelt sentiments, stating, “I’d keep doing it forever,” but acknowledged that having been in the role since 2005, it was time to step aside. He emphasized the unique nature of his departure, saying, “This is quite an unusual presenter announcement as I am not leaving to pursue other projects or to start a podcast!”
Fans will remember Will’s vibrant energy and dedication as he hosted alongside Dáithí for over 15 years, and more recently, Kathryn. His emotional farewell highlighted the “annual mad summer camp” he cherished, thanking the “best crew of TV professionals” and the 576 Roses he met throughout his tenure.
Replacing Will is Carl Mullan, who is set to take over as the new Master of Ceremonies for the festival. Carl enthusiastically announced his new role on RTÉ 2FM, stating, “I am absolutely buzzing to let everyone know that I am the new Master of Ceremonies at the Rose of Tralee International Festival.” He will be responsible for introducing the 32 Roses on stage, and he is already preparing for the spotlight with his tuxedo ready.
This change comes as the festival gears up for what promises to be an exciting year. Fans of the show are eager to see how Carl will bring his own flair to the iconic event. In a light-hearted moment, Will joked about leaving “post-its all around the desk just in case” for Carl, wishing him the best of luck in his new position.
As Will continues his work on the Breakfast Show on RTÉ Gold, he has left a legacy that will not be forgotten. His passion and commitment have shaped the Rose of Tralee into a cherished tradition for many, ensuring that his influence will remain even as new leadership takes over.
With the festival approaching, all eyes are on Carl Mullan as he prepares to make his mark. Fans are encouraged to share their support and excitement for both Carl and Will as they embark on their new journeys. Stay tuned for updates as the Rose of Tralee International Festival unfolds this summer!
