UPDATE: A woman dramatically escaped an alleged kidnapper by jumping from a moving vehicle in Belfast early on August 24, 2023. The incident unfolded around 5 AM after the woman and her male companion attempted to flag down a taxi following a concert.

Authorities report that Tony Fusco, 41, of Central Promenade, Newcastle, picked up the pair in his Citroen Berlingo but drove in the opposite direction of their intended destination. After stopping at an Applegreen petrol station, Fusco handed the victim’s friend £10 and instructed him to pay for petrol while he remained in the vehicle.

However, in a shocking turn of events, Fusco allegedly forced a white powder into the woman’s mouth, causing her mouth to go numb. He then began to engage in inappropriate behavior while continuing to drive. Fearing for her life, the woman managed to escape by jumping from the moving vehicle and hiding in a bush. Reports indicate that Fusco circled the area before leaving.

Following her escape, the woman made her way to Lisburn, where she concealed herself in an alleyway until a friend could pick her up. She subsequently reported the incident to the police, leading to Fusco’s arrest. Officers later found cannabis and pregabalin at his home.

During court proceedings, Fusco acknowledged picking up the pair but denied forcing drugs upon the woman, claiming that she possessed the substances. He failed to explain his actions, such as why he left the male friend behind or why he did not refuel his vehicle.

Despite his legal representation’s plea for bail, citing that he does not reside in Belfast and has no prior serious offenses, bail was denied. The judge described the allegations as “sinister and serious,” remanding Fusco in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court again on September 23.

This disturbing incident has raised alarms about safety in the area, prompting a call for increased vigilance among late-night travelers. Authorities encourage anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
