Woman Hospitalized as Galway Cinema Roof Collapses in Heavy Rain

UPDATE: A woman has been hospitalized after part of the roof at the EYE Cinema in Galway collapsed during severe rain on Thursday evening. Authorities are conducting investigations into the incident, which occurred amidst a 24-hour status yellow rain warning affecting several counties on the west coast.
Emergency services, including local gardai and personnel from Galway Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the scene at Wellpark Retail Park shortly after the alarm was raised. The area was immediately evacuated, and a safety cordon was established as assessments began.
A spokesperson for gardai confirmed that the injured woman was transported to University Hospital Galway as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, reports indicate that her injuries are not serious, providing some relief amid the chaos.
Social media has been flooded with images and videos depicting the aftermath of the collapse, showing significant structural damage outside the cinema. Inside, flooding was reported, with the ceiling in one screening area having partially fallen due to the heavy downpours.
