Young Man Killed in Tragic Crash on N17 in Galway, Urgent Appeal
UPDATE: A young man in his 20s tragically lost his life in a serious collision on the N17 at Drum, near the Mayo-Galway border, early this morning. The accident occurred shortly after 8 AM, catapulting the community into mourning as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
The collision involved a car and a van, resulting in the immediate death of the car’s driver at the scene. The van’s driver, a man in his 50s, sustained severe injuries and was swiftly airlifted to University Hospital Galway (UHG) for urgent medical attention.
As of now, the N17 remains closed between Milltown and Ballindine while forensic teams conduct a thorough examination of the crash site. Authorities have implemented diversions at the Milltown road roundabout in Tuam, Co Galway, and in Ballindine, Co Mayo, to manage traffic effectively.
Gardaí are urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who may have been in the area between 7:45 AM and 8:15 AM and possess dash-cam footage. Anyone with information is requested to contact Tuam Garda Station at 093 70840 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
