Brittany Ferries Expands Rosslare to Cherbourg Service to Daily Departures

Rosslare Europort has announced that Brittany Ferries will expand its service frequency on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route, transitioning to daily departures from the end of September. This increase from five sailings each week to seven will enhance both capacity and frequency, with the new schedule officially starting in October 2025. Passengers will benefit from a new Tuesday evening departure at 21:00, along with additional sailings introduced as part of a broader enhancement of the route.
Glenn Carr, Director of Commercial Business Units for Iarnród Éireann, which oversees Rosslare Europort, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. He stated, “We are delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Brittany Ferries and welcome their expansion to a daily service in each direction on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route.” Carr noted that since Brexit, direct sailings on all routes between Rosslare Europort and the European continent have increased six-fold. He emphasized the importance of maintaining capacity and choice for both industry and tourism.
The decision by Brittany Ferries comes in response to heightened interest in additional sailings following Stena Line’s announcement to cease operations on the route at the end of September. Carr acknowledged Brittany Ferries’ proactive approach in confirming the expansion and capitalizing on the strong demand from both passenger and freight markets.
This expansion continues Brittany Ferries’ growth on the route, which began in January 2021 with an initial weekly service. The transition to a daily service not only offers more choices for customers but also coincides with significant investments in Rosslare Europort. The port has undergone transformative upgrades, including new passenger vehicle and freight check-in facilities and the implementation of SmartPort technology.
Investment and Future Developments at Rosslare Europort
The ongoing expansion at Rosslare Europort is marked by the largest investment in its history. Construction of the new Terminal 7 infrastructure and a permanent border control post is nearing completion, a project developed in partnership with the Office of Public Works. These improvements aim to streamline freight and passenger check-in processes, ultimately enhancing the overall user experience.
In addition to the current upgrades, project designs for Rosslare Europort’s Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Hub are being finalized. A planning application is expected to be lodged with An Bord Pleanála in the coming months, aiming to further solidify the port’s role in renewable energy initiatives.
As Brittany Ferries implements this daily service, both the ferry operator and Rosslare Europort are poised to meet the growing demands of travelers and freight operators in a post-Brexit landscape. This strategic expansion reflects a commitment to enhancing connectivity between Ireland and continental Europe, supporting economic growth in the region.
