Chaos Erupts as Mass Stabbing Shakes Train to King’s Cross
Passengers on a high-speed train from Doncaster to King’s Cross experienced terror on the evening of November 25, 2023, when a mass stabbing incident unfolded shortly after departing from Peterborough station. The LNER service, which was set to arrive in London in less than two hours, was abruptly halted in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, after reports of a man attacking fellow passengers with a knife.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos and confusion as screams filled the train. Olly Foster, a passenger, recounted to the BBC that he initially thought the loud shouts of “run, run, there’s a guy literally stabbing everyone” were part of a Halloween prank. He soon realized the gravity of the situation as he saw victims being attacked, with ten individuals ultimately requiring hospital treatment for their injuries.
As panic spread among passengers, many sought refuge in train toilets. Reports indicated that one man attempted to shield a younger girl from the assailant, suffering serious injuries to his head and neck in the process. Gavin, another passenger, described seeing an “extremely bloodied” victim collapse on the floor of the carriage.
Emergency services were alerted by 7:39 PM, with the Cambridgeshire Constabulary responding swiftly and the British Transport Police (BTP) arriving shortly thereafter. Within eight minutes of the initial call, armed officers apprehended two suspects. Sirens echoed through the night as ambulance crews and firefighters rushed to the scene. Local MP Ben Obese-Jecty commented on the unprecedented response, noting he had “never seen as big a response” to an incident.
Witnesses reported that armed police ordered the suspected attacker to “get down” before deploying a Taser. One passenger described how officers shouted commands while confronting the assailant, who was brandishing a large knife.
Forensic teams were deployed to investigate the scene, where the train remained stationary as of the following morning. The two suspects, aged 32 and 35, are being held on suspicion of attempted murder and are being questioned at separate police stations.
The incident has raised significant concerns regarding safety on public transport, particularly in light of the growing number of violent incidents across the UK. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack while ensuring the safety of passengers during their journeys.
