Five Soldiers Injured in Shooting at Fort Stewart, Georgia

Five soldiers were shot at the Fort Stewart Army base in Georgia on March 15, 2024. The incident prompted a swift lockdown of the facility as law enforcement responded to the scene. The gunman was apprehended shortly after the shooting, with authorities confirming the arrest occurred at 11:35 AM local time.
While the conditions of the injured soldiers have not been disclosed, they were promptly treated and transported to Winn Army Community Hospital. Base officials reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
The shooting took place at the complex of the 2nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team, which is known as the Spartan Brigade and is recognized as one of the Army’s most advanced land fighting forces. Established in 2016, this brigade includes over 4,200 soldiers and a significant fleet of military vehicles.
Lockdown and Community Response
The lockdown at Fort Stewart lasted approximately one hour, during which time three elementary schools located just outside the base also implemented lockdown procedures “out of an abundance of caution,” according to Brian Perry, superintendent of the Liberty County School System. These schools collectively serve nearly 1,400 students, highlighting the potential impact on families in the area.
Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene shortly before 11:00 AM, indicating that the response was immediate and prioritized the safety of both military personnel and local residents.
The Army is conducting an investigation into the shooting, and further details regarding the shooter’s identity and the specific circumstances surrounding the event have yet to be released. As the situation develops, authorities emphasize the importance of community safety and cooperation.
Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It is home to thousands of soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division, as well as their families, making the incident particularly concerning for those within the military community.
As the investigation continues, officials will provide updates on the condition of the injured soldiers and any additional findings from their inquiries.
