London Stansted Sees Record July Traffic with 2.92 Million Passengers

London Stansted Airport achieved its busiest month ever in July 2023, welcoming over 2.92 million passengers. The increase in traffic coincided with the start of the school summer holidays, highlighting the airport’s popularity as a travel hub. Dublin emerged as one of the top destinations, alongside Palma De Mallorca and Edinburgh.
On July 27, the airport recorded its highest number of departing passengers in a single day, with more than 53,000 individuals taking flights. This date marked the busiest day of the year thus far, as the total number of passengers passing through the terminal exceeded 102,000. Compared to the previous year, July’s passenger total represented a 0.9% increase over the previous record set in 2022.
The total number of passengers using London Stansted in the past twelve months climbed to 29.97 million, reflecting a 2.9% increase year-on-year. Popular destinations during July included Spain, Italy, and Turkey, with Palma De Mallorca joining Dublin and Edinburgh in the list of top three busiest individual destinations.
Operational Performance Remains Strong
Operational efficiency remained high during July, with 99% of passengers passing through security in 15 minutes or less. The average queue time during peak departure periods was under three minutes, ensuring a smooth experience for travelers.
Anita Harrison, Customer Operations Director at London Stansted, remarked on the airport’s strong performance. She stated, “The main summer getaway at London Stansted has got off to a very strong start as we welcomed a record-breaking number of passengers thanks to the airport’s extensive route network of more than 200 destinations as well as the great value, convenience, and reliable service we offer to our passengers.”
Harrison emphasized the airport’s commitment to maintaining high standards of service as the summer getaway continues. She noted that the dedicated efforts of the staff have enabled a stress-free start for travelers. “As the getaway progresses across August, we know we will see this strong demand continue, so our teams will be working incredibly hard to ensure we maintain a smooth and stable airport operation and deliver the best experience possible for every passenger flying from London Stansted,” she added.
The record-breaking figures from London Stansted underscore the growing demand for air travel as summer vacations approach, positioning the airport as a key player in international travel.
