Luxair Welcomes First Embraer E195-E2, Expands Fleet Modernization
Luxair has officially welcomed its first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s ongoing fleet modernization efforts. This Brazilian-manufactured jet is set to enhance travel options across Europe and offer a more comfortable flying experience for passengers.
The new Embraer E195-E2 features a modern design that reflects Luxembourg’s national identity. With a capacity of 136 seats arranged in a two-by-two layout, the aircraft aims to provide increased personal space, including a generous seat pitch of 30 inches and the absence of middle seats. The innovative cabin design will also reduce noise levels by up to 35%, allowing for a more tranquil flight.
Fleet Expansion and Future Plans
Luxair originally placed a firm order for four E195-E2 jets in 2023, later expanding that commitment to a total of six aircraft. The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Gilles Feith, emphasized the importance of this delivery in a statement on the airline’s social media: “The arrival of this first Embraer E195-E2 is a decisive step into Luxair’s future (…) strengthening our competitiveness, reducing our environmental impact and enhancing the travel experience for our passengers.”
The new aircraft is expected to enter commercial service in 2026, reaffirming Luxair’s investment in its future. The airline, which serves as the largest carrier from Luxembourg Findel Airport, connects the small European nation to major destinations such as Lisbon, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, and London.
Delivery Journey and Features
The Embraer E195-E2, registered as LX-LEA, embarked on its delivery journey from São José dos Campos in Brazil on November 28, 2023. After a brief stop in Recife for refueling, it continued its journey across the Atlantic, arriving at Gran Canaria Airport before finally touching down at Luxembourg Findel Airport on November 29 at 14:02. Upon arrival, the aircraft was greeted with a traditional water salute, a ceremony attended by government officials and representatives from the aviation community.
In addition to upgraded seating, the E195-E2 will feature an advanced onboard entertainment system, ensuring passengers remain engaged throughout their flights. Connectivity options will allow travelers to use their personal devices via the airline’s onboard Wi-Fi.
Founded in March 1962, Luxair has built a diverse fleet, which now includes Boeing 737-700, 737-800, 737 MAX 8, De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, and the new Embraer E195-E2. The airline also has additional orders for four Boeing 737 MAX 7 and 737 MAX 10 aircraft, further solidifying its commitment to modernization and enhanced passenger services.
As Luxair takes this pivotal step forward, the airline aims to redefine air travel in Luxembourg and beyond, focusing on improved service, efficiency, and sustainability in the skies.
