Munich Airport Resumes Flights After Drone Disruptions

Munich International Airport has started to gradually resume flight operations after drone sightings in the vicinity prompted the suspension of early flights on Saturday morning. The airport operator issued a warning of ongoing disruptions throughout the day, urging travelers to stay informed about their flight status.
Both runways at Munich Airport were closed on Friday evening for the second time within 24 hours due to drone activity. This closure resulted in the diversion or cancellation of dozens of flights, leaving approximately 6,500 passengers stranded at the facility. The airport had initially planned to reopen at 5 AM, but the situation necessitated a more cautious approach.
In a notice on its website, the airport advised travelers to check with their airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules. The unexpected drone incidents have raised safety concerns and highlighted the challenges airports face in maintaining seamless operations amidst such disruptions.
With operations resuming, the airport is working closely with law enforcement to address the issue of unauthorized drone flights. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any individuals have been apprehended in connection with the drone activity.
Travelers are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drone sightings to airport security. As operations stabilize, the airport aims to minimize further delays and restore confidence among passengers.
This incident at Munich Airport underscores the growing challenges that aviation authorities must navigate as drone technology becomes more prevalent. As airports adapt to these new realities, the focus remains on ensuring passenger safety and efficient travel.
