Munich Airport Resumes Flights Following Drone Disruptions
Munich International Airport began resuming flight operations on the morning of March 15, 2025, following a suspension caused by drone sightings near its airspace. The airport operator issued a warning of ongoing disruptions throughout the day, advising passengers to remain informed regarding their flight status.
The incident unfolded on the evening of March 14, when both runways at the airport were closed for the second time in less than 24 hours due to the presence of drones. This closure led to the diversion or cancellation of dozens of flights, impacting approximately 6,500 travelers. As a result, many passengers were left stranded at the airport.
In a statement on its official website, Munich Airport indicated that operations would gradually resume, with the airport scheduled to reopen at 05:00 local time. Travelers were encouraged to check for updates with their respective airlines as delays and cancellations were expected to persist throughout the day.
The situation highlights the ongoing challenges posed by unauthorized drone activity in proximity to major airports. Authorities are continuously working to implement measures to enhance safety and minimize disruptions caused by such incidents.
As operations normalize, Munich Airport remains committed to ensuring passenger safety and providing timely updates as the situation evolves.
