Putin and Xi Discuss Immortality During Military Parade in Beijing

A private conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping was unexpectedly revealed during a military parade in Beijing, where they discussed organ transplants and the notion of extending human life to 150 years. This incident occurred on March 5, 2025, as Putin and Xi walked alongside North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in a show of solidarity during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Asia.
The exchange was captured by a hot microphone and broadcasted via a livestream by state broadcaster CCTV, which reported a staggering 1.9 billion views online and over 400 million viewers on television. As the leaders approached the Tiananmen rostrum, a translator for Putin could be heard stating, “Biotechnology is continuously developing,” followed by thoughts on organ transplantation and the potential for humans to achieve immortality.
Xi, responding from off-camera, remarked that some predict humans may live to 150 years old in this century. Kim appeared engaged, smiling towards the two leaders, though it was unclear whether he received an immediate translation of the conversation.
The conversation’s content reflects ongoing concerns and interests in biotechnology among global leaders. As the video shifted to broader shots of the military parade, Xi spoke to a crowd of over 50,000 spectators, emphasizing a global choice between “peace or war” while inspecting advanced military technology, including hypersonic missiles and naval drones.
Putin’s visit to China began on March 2, 2025, for a summit involving over 20 leaders from non-Western countries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this summit, Putin and Xi formalized more than 20 agreements, covering areas from energy to artificial intelligence, including plans for a new gas pipeline to China, though specific details regarding financing and pricing remain undisclosed.
The Russian government has yet to comment on the incident, and inquiries to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CCTV have not received a response. The revelation adds another layer of complexity to the diplomatic relations between these nations, reflecting their shared interests in technological advancements and military power.
