Shannon Airport is set to enhance its connectivity with the introduction of a new direct service to Frankfurt, Germany. Starting on April 4, 2026, Discover Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, will operate the route twice weekly. This new schedule will run on Saturdays from April 4 to October 24, 2026, and on Thursdays from May 14 to September 24. The quick two-hour journey will be serviced by an Airbus A320-200, adding more than 16,700 seats to Shannon’s summer offerings.

The announcement was welcomed by Mary Considine, CEO of the Shannon Airport Group, who highlighted the importance of this route for both business and tourism. “Having direct access to Frankfurt, one of Europe’s key airport hubs and a leading financial centre, opens up incredible opportunities for connectivity and growth,” she stated. Considine emphasized that Germany is a significant market for Shannon, and this new route will make it easier for visitors to explore the stunning Wild Atlantic Way and the broader West of Ireland.

Declan Power, Head of Aviation Development at Shannon Airport, also expressed enthusiasm about the new service. “We’re proud to announce this new route today – a testament to the strong demand from our passengers flying to and from Shannon Airport,” he said. Power noted the collaboration with Discover Airlines and the strategic importance of connecting to Frankfurt, which serves as one of Europe’s premier hubs. He is confident that this service will appeal to both business and leisure travellers.

As part of the Lufthansa Group, Discover Airlines will offer passengers access to an extensive network through its Frankfurt hub. This will provide seamless onward connections to numerous destinations across Germany, Europe, and even to regions as far as Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The service will also feature coordinated flight and rail transfers, ensuring smooth connections for afternoon and evening flights from Frankfurt.

Frankfurt itself is renowned as one of the world’s foremost financial hubs, often regarded as Germany’s financial capital. Visitors can expect a vibrant city experience, complete with modern architecture, charming riverside cafes, world-class museums, and diverse neighbourhoods.
