Stena Line Elevates Sarah West to Lead UK & Ireland Ports
Stena Line has announced the appointment of Sarah West as the new Managing Director of its UK and Ireland Ports business, effective January 2026. This strategic restructuring of the Ports Leadership Team underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing its port operations and infrastructure across the region.
In her new role, West will oversee all aspects of Stena Line’s port and terminal operations in the UK and Ireland. Carl-Johan Hellner, Chief Operating Officer Ports & Terminals at Stena Line, expressed enthusiasm about her arrival: “We’re delighted to have Sarah join our fantastic team and lead our UK and Ireland port and terminal operations.” He added that the company has invested significantly in its vessels, ports, and terminals in recent years, and anticipates that West’s leadership will further elevate service quality for customers.
With over 30 years of experience in the maritime sector, West brings a wealth of knowledge, particularly in port operations. Her previous role as CEO of Harwich Haven Authority involved managing marine services for prominent ports including Felixstowe, Ipswich, and Harwich. Additionally, West has held strategic positions such as Chief Operating Officer at the Port of Dover and played a critical role in the operational implementation of the South Harbour at the Port of Aberdeen.
West’s extensive career also includes a notable 20-year tenure in the Royal Navy, where she made history by becoming the first woman to command a major UK warship. Her unique blend of experience positions her to lead Stena Line during a pivotal time for the company.
Reflecting on her new position, West stated, “Stena Line is at a transformative point in its long history in the UK and Ireland. I’m excited to work with the team to develop and implement our plans for the future.”
This leadership change signifies Stena Line’s ongoing strategy to enhance operational excellence, improve customer service, and promote sustainability across its network of ports in the UK and Ireland. As the company continues to make significant investments, the focus will remain on delivering high-quality service throughout the customer journey.
