Tragic Workplace Accident Claims Life of Funfair Worker in North Tyneside

A tragic incident at the Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man on August 26, 2023. Emergency services were alerted at 14:15 local time after reports of a serious injury. The victim, identified as Corrie Lee Stavers, sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics arrived on the scene.
The funfair, located in the popular Spanish City Plaza area, has been closed for the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend following the accident. According to Northumbria Police, the Health and Safety Executive has been informed and is currently assisting with the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In an official statement, Mr. Stavers’s family expressed their grief, stating, “It’s with broken hearts that we share the devastating news that our beloved Corrie has passed away. He was tragically taken from us in an accident while working on a fairground ride.” The family described the loss as sudden and overwhelming, indicating that their lives would never be the same without him. They requested privacy during this difficult time.
