UPDATE: Parts of Ireland are bracing for a week of persistent rain and cloudy skies, with Met Eireann confirming that any significant sunshine will not return until next Monday, October 16, 2023. After a wet weekend, the forecast highlights a series of weather fronts bringing wet and windy conditions across the country.

Beginning this morning, Sunday, October 15, Ireland faced a dreary start with heavy rain affecting most regions. While some scattered showers and brief sunny spells are expected later in the day, the outlook remains largely unsettled. Met Eireann’s meteorologist, Holly O’Neill, warns that “outbreaks of rain and drizzle will persist across the country for the week.”

Forecasts indicate that temperatures will range from 14 to 20 degrees Celsius, before dropping to lows of 6 to 10 degrees overnight. Monday morning promises a brief respite with crisp, sunny conditions, but these will quickly give way to showers spreading from the west by early afternoon. O’Neill cautions that some areas may experience heavier downpours and isolated thunderstorms later in the day.

Tuesday is poised to kick off with further rain, especially in the morning, but conditions should improve from the west, leading to scattered showers. Overnight, clouds will thicken again, with another wave of rain moving in from the west. The lowest temperatures are expected to be around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.

As the week progresses, rain is expected to clear by Wednesday afternoon, allowing for some brighter spells, particularly in eastern regions. However, the rest of the week is forecasted to remain unsettled, with further rain and temperatures fluctuating between 13 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Residents across Ireland are advised to prepare for these wet conditions, with travel and outdoor plans potentially impacted. The anticipated clear skies next Monday are a welcome prospect for those yearning for sunshine.
