A man who experienced a near-death event at the age of 20 is now sharing his beliefs about the afterlife, claiming it to be real. Ray Catania, now 57 years old, was declared dead following a gas leak in his home that turned fatal when a fire ignited as he slept. His account details a vivid near-death experience that has led him to explore the concepts of life and death deeply.

Catania recalls the harrowing night when gas filled his bedroom, causing an explosion that set fire to his parents’ house. “All night long, the gas was rising into my bedroom, and I was breathing it in,” he recounted. He vividly remembers waking up to the sound of emergency responders, yet he found himself unable to move. “I couldn’t move my legs at all. They were completely paralysed. I couldn’t get my head off the pillow; I couldn’t yell or speak,” he said.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Catania managed to pull himself from the bed, falling to the floor. Strikingly, he describes this moment as one where he felt detached from his body. “I didn’t feel anything because I wasn’t in that body anymore; I was above it, in the corner of my room looking down. I could see my lifeless body,” he explained. He added that he felt a powerful urge towards a bright light in the corner of the room, describing it as a “huge cone-shaped white light” that represented love, peace, and joy.

As Catania approached the light, he perceived an unknown being inviting him to join it. “Nothing has ever felt as good as that moment,” he stated. Yet, just as he was drawn to the light, he witnessed his father enter the room in a frantic state, trying to revive him. “He was screaming for the paramedics. Distraught, in tears,” he noted.

Shortly thereafter, Catania found himself back in his home, being resuscitated by paramedics. Despite the chaos around him, he claims to have felt no pain during the experience. He later learned that he had died multiple times before reaching the hospital. Following his recovery, Catania shared his experience with family and friends, who often dismissed his claims as fanciful.

For years, he accepted their views until he realized this was not his first encounter with death. At the age of 10, he survived a near-drowning incident at a beach in New Jersey. Later, while working in a bar in New York, he narrowly escaped a shooting, attributing his survival to a guiding presence that urged him away from danger.

Catania’s journey into understanding life and death deepened after visiting a medium in his 40s. This encounter led him to learn about how psychics perceive existence beyond the physical realm. Now a trained metaphysical counselor, he has authored a book sharing his insights and experiences.

“There’s definitely an afterlife,” Catania asserts. “At the end of the day, we’re all one; we’re all part of this light.” His story and beliefs continue to resonate with those who seek understanding beyond the tangible, sparking discussions about the nature of existence and the possibilities of what lies beyond life.
