New App Revolutionizes Price Comparison Across Irish Supermarkets
A new application named Cisean – Shopping List Ireland has launched, providing users with the ability to compare prices across major supermarkets in Ireland. This tool aims to help shoppers find the best deals and avoid overpaying for common items. The app was inspired by the founder’s frustration after purchasing Pepsi Max for €3 at one store, only to discover it was available for €5 for three cans at another.
Initially envisioned as a barcode scanner that would allow users to check prices at various locations, the app’s creator encountered challenges in gathering the necessary barcode data. Instead, they pivoted to developing a shopping list feature that enables users to search for products and compare prices at stores such as Tesco, Dunnes, Lidl, Aldi, SuperValu, and Centra. Currently, the app includes current deals and multi-buy offers available in these supermarkets.
Features and User Experience
In addition to price comparisons, Cisean allows users to create shopping lists that provide a running total of their grocery expenses. The app also features available weekly leaflets from the supermarkets, enabling users to stay updated on promotions. User feedback has already begun to shape future updates; many have requested a ‘Sort by’ feature to enhance the shopping experience.
On the r/ireland subreddit, where the app was first announced, the creator acknowledged some initial bugs and expressed a desire to implement additional features, including a barcode scanner and price history charts. One user noted, “Unit pricing like €XX.XX per gram or per litre could be a good addition,” highlighting the potential for further development.
Currently, Cisean is exclusively available on the Android platform, with plans for an iOS version contingent on user interest. Early reviews on the Google Play Store indicate that many users find the app helpful in simplifying their shopping trips. One enthusiastic user commented, “This is honestly an incredible idea, fair play. I was sick of trawling through multiple shopping apps to get the prices of weekly essentials.”
Future Prospects
As consumers increasingly seek value in their shopping experiences, applications like Cisean are positioned to play a significant role in retail. By providing a straightforward way to compare prices and track spending, the app encourages smart shopping habits. With continuous improvements and user feedback, the app has the potential to become an essential tool for grocery shoppers across Ireland.
The launch of Cisean marks a significant advancement in the digital shopping landscape, making it easier for consumers to make informed decisions and ultimately save money. As the app gains traction, its success may inspire similar initiatives in other countries, reflecting a growing trend towards price transparency in retail.
