Tributes Flow for Cian Neville, Beloved Teen from RTE Show

The sudden passing of 15-year-old Cian Neville, who touched many hearts through his appearance on the popular RTÉ television show Raised by the Village, has led to an outpouring of tributes from friends, family, and the wider community. Cian died on August 25, 2023, surrounded by his family in his home at Leo Fitzgerald House in Ringsend, Dublin.

Cian became a familiar face for viewers of Raised by the Village, which showcased urban teenagers living with rural families. In the second season, which aired in 2022, Cian moved in with the Payne family in Tulsk, Roscommon. There, he not only adapted to farm life but also volunteered at a local dog grooming and daycare service called Dottie’s Doghouse. The owner, Dottie, expressed her sorrow in a heartfelt message, stating, “He was a true little gentleman… absolutely gutted for his mam, dad, and siblings.”

In addition to his contributions at Dottie’s, Cian was an active member of his local football club, Cambridge FC. The club shared a poignant tribute, describing Cian as a “much-loved member of our u17 team.” They highlighted how he “lit up every training session and matchday” with his vibrant energy and infectious smile. The club extended their condolences to Cian’s family, saying, “We will miss him more than words can say, but his spirit will always be part of our club.”

Cian’s impact reached far beyond his immediate circle. Friends, family, and acquaintances took to social media to share their condolences and memories. Dottie’s post regarding his passing garnered over 10,000 well wishes from the community, reflecting the significant influence Cian had on those around him.

The grief shared among his peers and family is palpable, with many recalling Cian’s love for life and his ability to bring joy to others. His funeral service took place on August 30, 2023, at St Patrick’s Church in Ringsend, followed by burial at Glasnevin Cemetery.
