Nikita McGrath Qualifies as Donegal’s Newest Solicitor
A significant milestone was reached in Donegal as Nikita McGrath was welcomed as the newest practising solicitor in the region. Ms. McGrath’s formal introduction took place during a sitting of the Letterkenny District Court, where barrister Peter Nolan BL presented her credentials.
Ms. McGrath, originally from Fahan, completed her legal studies at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), earning her LLB in Law in 2012. With over a decade of experience in legal offences, she has built a solid foundation in practical legal work and client advocacy. In January 2023, she began her professional training at Blackhall Place, culminating in her qualification as a solicitor in March 2025. She now practises with Patrick J Sweeney Solicitors.
During the court session, Mr. Nolan praised Ms. McGrath for her dedication and hard work, stating, “She is a very diligent, hard-working young lady. I see a great future for her in the profession. I have no doubt that she will shine and I wish her every success and congratulations.”
Ms. McGrath’s family, including her parents Christine and John, her sister Abbie, and her grandmother Anne Deeney, were present to celebrate this achievement. The court atmosphere was filled with pride, as Judge Emile Daly also extended his congratulations. “I wish you the very best in your career in this district,” he said. “You are surrounded by very able and experienced practitioners to give you all the support that you need to represent clients. You will have the assurance of all your practitioner colleagues.”
In a light-hearted moment, Sergeant Jim Collins of An Garda Síochána welcomed Ms. McGrath and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with her, noting, “I am looking forward to working with you as closely as we can given that I am on the bright side and she is on the dark side!”
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Ms. McGrath thanked her colleagues and peers for their kind words and support. “I’m looking forward to working with you all,” she said, eager to embark on her new professional journey.
This event marks not only a personal achievement for Ms. McGrath but also a significant addition to the legal community in Donegal. Her training and dedication promise to make her an integral part of the local legal landscape.
