Bay Broadcasting Acquires Galway Bay FM; New CEO Aims to Expand Audience
URGENT UPDATE: In a significant development for local radio, Bay Broadcasting has officially acquired Galway Bay FM, marking a pivotal moment for the station and its future growth. The sale, which was confirmed earlier today, has received the green light from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan.
This acquisition positions Bay Broadcasting as the second-largest radio group in Ireland and the largest Irish-owned radio group in the country. Kevin Branigan, CEO of Bay Broadcasting, praised Galway Bay FM’s unmatched legacy in Irish local radio, stating, “Galway Bay FM is a terrific station with an outstanding team. Its heritage as the voice of Galway is something we deeply respect and are proud to help sustain.”
With this transition, Fionnuala Rabbitt, an Oranmore native and former producer at Galway Bay FM, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer. She expressed her excitement about returning to the station, saying, “It is truly special to be returning to Galway Bay FM, where my broadcasting career began. I’m thrilled to return with a fresh perspective and deep respect for the station’s unique place in the community.”
In an important move, Keith Finnegan, the former CEO, will now serve as Chairman of the Board. He emphasized his commitment to the station’s future, stating, “Galway Bay FM has always been close to my heart. I look forward to supporting the team and helping to shape the next chapter of Galway Bay FM’s success.”
