UPDATE: Renowned musician and mental health advocate Niall Breslin, known as Bressie, is set to release his highly anticipated new album, The Place That Has Never Been Wounded, on October 24, 2023. This marks Bressie’s first musical offering since his 2013 Irish number one album, Rage and Romance, and is the result of three years of intense creative work.

In a world grappling with chaos and uncertainty, Bressie aims to provide a soothing escape through his music. The album features 14 meticulously crafted piano compositions that blend strings and atmospheric sounds. Recorded in just five days, each track serves as a deeply personal reflection of Bressie’s struggles, echoing his commitment to mental health awareness.

“Music has the ability to support people,” Bressie shared. “I hope it’s using music as a form of mindfulness for people who struggle.” His personal journey with anxiety, including 15 years of panic attacks, inspired him to create music that allows listeners to find peace in their inner worlds.

The lead single, The Credence Frequency, explores the vital connection between body and mind. Bressie emphasizes the importance of tuning out external distractions, stating, “I always say my body broke before my mind did.” His experiences highlight the necessity of listening to one’s internal self amid external chaos.

Bressie’s commitment to mental health advocacy extends beyond music. He has consistently urged the government to prioritize mental health resources, advocating for basic supports like health and housing. “It’s very difficult to talk about wellness in a classroom where there are homeless children,” he noted, calling for a more coherent approach to mental health policy.

The album is not just a musical release; it’s a multimedia project that includes a book and an extended version with guided meditation features to enhance the listening experience. Following a successful test performance at the Mallow Arts Festival, Bressie will embark on an eight-show tour across Ireland, including a performance at Kilkenny’s Set Theatre on October 29.

Bressie expressed his excitement about returning to the stage. “I think Covid made me realise how much I miss performing and how I actually need to do it,” he stated, emphasizing the emotional connection he shares with his audience during live shows.

As he prepares for the album launch, Bressie’s hope is clear: he aims to provide a space for introspection in an increasingly isolating world. “We need to stop normalising chaos,” he said, inviting listeners to embrace their inner worlds and find comfort in the music.

The countdown to October 24 is on as Bressie prepares to share his transformative new work, promising to resonate with anyone navigating the complexities of life.

Stay tuned for more updates and join the conversation about how music can serve as a powerful tool for mental wellbeing.
