Cllr Scanlon Advocates for Speed Vans on Cappry Road
Cllr Martin Scanlon has called for the installation of speed vans on Cappry Road and in proximity to Dooish National School to address growing concerns about traffic violations. On October 24, 2025, he highlighted that the recent resurfacing of Cappry Road has led to an increase in speeding, with many motorists disregarding the 60 km/h speed limit.
According to Cllr Scanlon, the road has become a popular route for drivers looking to bypass the busy areas of the Twin Towns, resulting in heightened traffic levels. He expressed particular concern for the safety of children attending Dooish National School, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to enhance safety in the vicinity.
The call for speed vans aims to deter reckless driving and protect vulnerable road users. Cllr Scanlon stated, “The increase in traffic speeds poses a significant risk to the community, especially near schools where children are present.” He believes that the presence of speed enforcement technology would serve as an effective deterrent against speeding.
Local authorities are expected to review the proposal, considering the safety implications for residents and schoolchildren alike. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to improving road safety in the region, particularly in areas where traffic patterns have shifted dramatically.
As discussions progress, community feedback will likely play a crucial role in shaping the final decision regarding the placement of speed vans. Cllr Scanlon’s advocacy highlights the ongoing efforts to create safer road environments for all users.
