A man and a woman are in critical condition following a stabbing in the Ballinlough area of Cork on the evening of November 17, 2025. The incident took place shortly after 19:00 local time at a residence in a mature housing estate located just 2 kilometers from Cork city centre. The couple, who are in their 60s and have been long-term residents of the area, suffered serious injuries during the altercation.

According to the Gardaí, a knife described as a large kitchen knife was discovered at the scene, reportedly covered in blood. Emergency services responded swiftly after neighbours alerted them to the situation. Gardaí deployed armed units alongside uniformed officers to secure the area, while multiple ambulances transported the injured individuals to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for urgent medical care.

Both victims are understood to be undergoing assessments for emergency surgery, as their conditions remain serious. In addition to the couple, a third man, known to them, sustained minor injuries during the incident and is reportedly assisting Gardaí with their inquiries.

The area surrounding the property has been cordoned off for a thorough forensic investigation by the Garda Technical Bureau. Officers are expected to conduct door-to-door inquiries to gather further information regarding the circumstances leading to the stabbing.

This incident marks the second stabbing in Cork within a span of 36 hours. On the morning of November 15, 2025, a separate stabbing occurred in Hollyhill, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Mark O’Connell. He was discovered on a pavement shortly after 04:00 and, despite emergency intervention, succumbed to his injuries at Cork University Hospital.

The recent violence has raised concerns within the community, prompting calls for increased safety measures. As investigations continue, local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
