UPDATE: More than €800,000 has been urgently allocated for outdoor projects across Galway, enhancing recreational facilities for the community. The funding, confirmed by local authorities, includes significant investments aimed at improving public spaces and promoting outdoor activities.

The largest portion, €245,700, will be directed towards the creation of 2.5 kilometers of illuminated walkways around Renville Park. This development is expected to greatly benefit residents and visitors, allowing for safer and more enjoyable strolls in the area, particularly during evening hours.

In addition, €65,390 will be utilized for the upgrade and repair of tracks at Leitir Mucu in Casla, Conamara. These enhancements are crucial for maintaining the integrity of local trails and ensuring they remain accessible for walking and biking, fostering a stronger connection to nature and outdoor fitness.

Furthermore, Údaras na Gaeltachta has been allocated €500,000 for the development of 1.5 kilometers of trails at Bealach Portaigh Seanna Mhac. This initiative aims to enhance the area’s natural beauty while encouraging tourism and local engagement.

This funding is part of a broader national initiative under the National Outdoor Recreation Strategy, which has allocated over €16.5 million for outdoor projects across the country. The strategy emphasizes the importance of outdoor recreation in improving public health and quality of life.
