UPDATE: French police have fatally shot a man suspected of launching a violent stabbing spree in Marseille, leaving five people injured, one of whom is in critical condition. The assailant, identified as a Tunisian national with legal status in France, was confronted by authorities after a chaotic series of attacks that began at a hotel.

The incident escalated after the suspect was evicted from the hotel for non-payment. Following this, he stabbed his roommate, who is now in critical condition. The suspect then targeted the hotel’s manager and his son, who was stabbed in the back. Both are currently in “relative emergency” condition but are not believed to be in life-threatening danger, according to prosecutor Nicolas Bessone.

Witnesses describe a terrifying scene as the man continued his rampage on a busy shopping street. Armed with two large butcher knives and a baton, he injured at least two additional victims in the face before police intervened. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the suspect attempted to stab officers as they tried to arrest him.

Authorities confirm that police on the scene ordered the suspect to drop his weapons. When he refused, they “neutralized” him, but he succumbed to injuries despite resuscitation efforts.

A formal investigation has been launched into attempted murder and attempted murder of police officers. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau is expected to visit Marseille this evening, with plans to meet at the city’s police headquarters.

Residents expressed shock and fear following the assault. A local eyewitness reported, “It was chaos. He was just swinging those knives around.” Police have since cordoned off the area, setting up a forensic tent outside a fast-food restaurant, as they gather evidence.

As this situation develops, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. More updates are expected as police continue their investigation into this alarming incident.
