BREAKING: In a stunning return to the track, fan-favorite Hewick dominated the www.thurlesraces.ie Hurdle, securing an impressive victory at Thurles today. The race marked a significant comeback for the star horse, who is gearing up for a new season over fences.

Hewick, trained by Shark Hanlon, was the clear favorite at 8-15 and did not disappoint, cantering to a comfortable win by four and three-quarters lengths ahead of Moon D’Orange, trained by John McConnell. This victory sets the stage for ambitious future races, including the BetVictor Champion Chase at Down Royal or the Charlie Hall at Wetherby on November 1.

Riding Hewick, Paddy Hanlon noted that while the horse felt a bit fatigued near the end, he is only seven weeks back in training. “He took a good blow at the top of the hill, but that’s expected,” said Hanlon. “He’ll improve a lot from this race.”

Hanlon expressed his hopes to keep Paddy on Hewick for the season, citing their strong bond. “When a horse has a bond with a jockey, it’s beneficial,” he stated. The trainer also confirmed that the next target depends on ground conditions, emphasizing that they will race wherever there is “goodish ground.”

Despite being a 10-year-old, Hanlon believes Hewick is in peak condition and stronger than ever. The Grand National at Aintree looms as a long-term goal, where Hewick finished eighth last year. “He was beaten only 18 lengths in the Grand National,” Hanlon remarked. “Why not try again?”

The atmosphere at Thurles was electric, with many fans coming to support Hewick, a horse known for his charm and resilience. “He is a great people’s horse,” Hanlon added, highlighting the connection between the horse and his fans.

As the racing community buzzes with excitement over Hewick’s performance, all eyes will be on his next moves. Will he tackle the Champion Chase or the Charlie Hall? The decision is pending, but it’s clear that Hewick is back and ready to make waves this season.
