UPDATE: Ireland is poised to experience soaring temperatures, with forecasts indicating highs of up to 28C on Tuesday afternoon. The latest report from Met Éireann warns that current hot and humid conditions may develop into a heatwave, potentially lasting into next week.

Met Éireann meteorologist Siobhán Ryan revealed during RTÉ’s News at One that the upcoming days will see afternoon temperatures consistently in the mid-20s. “The next number of days temperatures will be well above usual, with mean temperatures around 4C above average,” she stated. While a formal heatwave—defined as exceeding 25C for five consecutive days—has not yet been declared, Ryan believes conditions are ripe for one to develop.

The warmest day is expected to be Tuesday, with mist, fog, and isolated coastal showers in the west and southwest clearing by early afternoon. This will lead to dry conditions and extended periods of sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 22C to 28C amid a light easterly breeze.

As night falls, conditions will shift to cloudier skies in the southwest, with temperatures remaining mild, hovering between 13C and 16C. Wednesday will bring continued warmth and humidity, but expect rain and potential thunderstorms to move in from the southwest later in the day. Forecasts indicate highest temperatures will still be comfortable, ranging from 21C to 25C.

Later in the week, Thursday will begin mostly cloudy with scattered showers, transitioning to sunny spells by afternoon. Temperatures are expected to remain steady at 21C to 25C, while Friday promises more sunshine and light showers, maintaining the warm weather trend.

This developing weather pattern is significant for outdoor activities and community events across Ireland, making it crucial for residents to stay informed. With the potential for a heatwave on the horizon, individuals are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Stay tuned as Met Éireann continues to monitor the situation closely, providing updates on the evolving weather conditions.
