Manhunt Underway for Fraudster Fleeing Funeral Leave

URGENT UPDATE: A manhunt is underway for Raymond Lee, a 32-year-old convicted fraudster who has escaped while on compassionate bail to attend a funeral. Authorities confirm he failed to return to Maghaberry Prison on June 19, 2025, after being granted leave, marking his second escape in two years.

Lee, who is known to target elderly and vulnerable individuals as the leader of an organized gang, was awaiting sentencing for serious crimes, including conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering linked to multiple courier fraud schemes in 2020 and 2021. Police describe him as approximately 5ft 11in tall with a slim build and brown hair.

In a direct appeal, a spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland urged Lee to turn himself in, stating, “We would also ask anyone who has seen him or knows of his whereabouts not to approach him directly but to contact police on 101, quoting reference 918 of 19/06/25.” Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

This escape comes just days after another high-profile fugitive, James Meehan, was apprehended after avoiding capture for nearly nine months. Meehan had also been granted leave from Magilligan Prison in December 2024, failing to return and subsequently leading authorities on a lengthy search. He was arrested by An Garda Siochana and is now awaiting extradition.
