Mark English Breaks 800m Record Ahead of World Championships

Mark English has shattered his own national outdoor 800m record with a remarkable time of 1:43.37 during a competition in Budapest. Competing against a strong field, including race winner Laban Kipkorir Chepkwony of Kenya, English finished in second place and improved his previous record of 1:43.92, which he set in June.
English has demonstrated exceptional form throughout the 2025 season. Notably, he has recorded his six fastest times ever this year, highlighting a significant improvement in his performance. This latest achievement marks the third occasion this year that the Letterkenny athlete has set a new record in the 800m event.
Remarkable Training and Preparation
The 32-year-old English, who has claimed the title of National champion ten times, is currently training with the Fast 8 Track Club under the guidance of coach Justin Rinaldi. His recent success coincides with this training environment, which has evidently contributed to his impressive results. Earlier this year, English secured a bronze medal at the European indoor championships, further establishing his status as a formidable competitor in the sport.
As he prepares for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo next month, English remains focused and optimistic. His consistent performance and record-breaking runs provide a strong foundation as he looks to build upon his achievements and compete against the world’s best athletes.
With the World Championships on the horizon, English’s recent achievements have positioned him as a key contender. Athletes and fans alike will be watching closely to see if he can maintain this impressive form on the global stage.
