Met Éireann CANCELS Weather Warning as Conditions Shift Urgently

UPDATE: Met Éireann has just cancelled its Status Yellow weather warning for 14 counties, a surprising turn as conditions in Ireland remain unpredictable. The national forecaster originally issued the alert due to a low pressure system threatening torrential rain, but confirmed this morning that the warning is “no longer necessary due to reduced rainfall.”

The cancellation comes as many residents prepared for a weekend of wet weather. The warning was initially set to run from midnight Saturday until midnight Sunday, but now only the rain alert for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, and Waterford remains in effect, starting at 5:25 AM and lasting until 3 PM today.

Met Éireann has advised that this remaining alert indicates “spells of heavy rain” that could lead to localised flooding and difficult travel conditions. This news is critical for anyone planning travel or outdoor activities this weekend.

As we look ahead, conditions are expected to shift significantly. While the east and southeast will see persistent rain, the west and northwest can anticipate drier spells. Today’s temperatures will hover between 15°C and 18°C, with light to moderate winds across the region, freshening at times along the western coasts.

Tonight, more rain is expected in the east and southeast, with temperatures dropping to between 5°C and 8°C in clearer areas. Frost could form overnight as conditions cool.

Looking forward to the weekend, the forecast indicates a dramatic change. On Saturday, expect a mix of clouds and showers, particularly heavy in the northwest, with temperatures ranging from 13°C to 16°C. Breezy conditions will develop, especially along coasts.

Sunday promises a cooler but brighter day, with maximum temperatures of 11°C to 14°C, and potential frost is expected overnight as temperatures dip to as low as 2°C.

As temperatures stabilize next week, Met Éireann predicts generally dry and settled conditions, gradually returning to normal as high pressure establishes itself.

Residents are urged to stay updated on the latest forecasts as conditions can change rapidly. Share this news to keep your friends and family informed about the evolving weather situation in Ireland.
