A shocking incident unfolded off the coast of Ibiza on August 11, 2025, when a 91-foot-long yacht, named Da Vinci, erupted in flames with seven people on board. Eyewitness footage shared on social media captures the devastating scene, showcasing the yacht engulfed in a massive blaze before it ultimately sank into the Mediterranean Sea.

Thick black smoke billowed into the sky as the yacht rocked violently in the water. Fortunately, all four passengers, two crew members, and the captain were evacuated safely and reported to be in good condition, according to Salvamento Marítimo rescue officials. The yacht, valued at €1.6 million, was completely destroyed by the fire, which reportedly began in the engine room and rapidly spread throughout the vessel.

Rescue teams arrived on the scene approximately 7.3 miles southwest of Formentera and immediately deployed firefighting vessels to combat the blaze. An official statement from local marine rescue confirmed, “The fire could not be controlled, and the yacht has finally sunk. The Guardamar remains in the area cleaning up debris.”

Initially, those on board attempted to extinguish the fire themselves and had lifeboats prepared, but the situation quickly escalated, necessitating rescue. As the flames intensified, rescue boats were deployed, yet the yacht succumbed to the fire before it could be salvaged.

The Da Vinci was manufactured by Astondoa and was part of their discontinued 95 GLX series, known for its luxurious features, including accommodations for up to ten guests. The fire occurred during peak tourist season, drawing attention to the risks involved in yachting around the popular Balearic islands.

Social media is buzzing with reactions and videos of the incident as it unfolds. Authorities are urging anyone in the vicinity to remain cautious and stay away from the area while cleanup efforts are underway. As this story develops, stay tuned for more updates on the ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire and its impact on local maritime activities.
