Rudy Giuliani Injured in Car Crash, Recovering from Injuries

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering from a fractured vertebra and other injuries sustained in a car crash that occurred in New Hampshire on September 1, 2023. A spokesperson for the 81-year-old politician confirmed the details on Sunday, stating that he was a passenger in a rented Ford Bronco when the vehicle was rear-ended by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman.
New Hampshire State Police reported that the crash happened late Saturday evening. Troopers who witnessed the incident noted that both vehicles collided with the highway median and sustained significant damage. Both Mr. Giuliani and the driver of the Honda were taken to hospitals for treatment, although their injuries were not life-threatening.
According to a statement from police, Mr. Giuliani was transported to a nearby trauma center where he received treatment for a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations, and contusions, along with injuries to his left arm and lower leg. His head of security, Michael Ragusa, shared on social media that the former mayor is in good spirits and is recovering well, adding, “This was not a targeted attack.”
The circumstances leading up to the crash involved a domestic violence incident. Mr. Giuliani had stopped to assist a woman who had flagged him down for help. After contacting police on her behalf, he continued his journey and was struck shortly after merging onto the highway. Mr. Ragusa clarified that the crash was “entirely unrelated” to the earlier domestic violence report.
State police are currently investigating the crash, which occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 93. They were responding to the domestic violence report just before 22:00 when the accident happened. Authorities have not commented on whether Mr. Giuliani had notified them regarding the earlier incident.
In a social media post, Andrew Giuliani, Rudy’s son, expressed gratitude for the support received, stating, “Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world.”
The accident marks another chapter in the tumultuous life of the former mayor, known as “America’s mayor” for his leadership following the September 11 attacks in 2001. In recent years, Mr. Giuliani has faced numerous legal challenges, including a defamation judgment of $148 million awarded to two former Georgia election workers. These workers claimed that Mr. Giuliani made false statements about them during his tenure as an attorney for former President Donald Trump.
Despite these challenges, the former federal prosecutor has shown resilience. As he recovers from this latest setback, the public remains attentive to his ongoing legal battles and health status.
