Westport GAA in County Mayo is embarking on an unconventional fundraising initiative that invites participants to guess where a cow will relieve herself on their pitch. Dubbed the “Moo Poo” fundraiser, this event offers a chance to win €5,000 while supporting the club’s facilities and community projects.

Participants can purchase a square on the designated “Moo Poo pitch” for €10, or opt for three squares for €20. When the cow, described as “well-fed,” does her business in a chosen square, the lucky participant will claim the grand prize. The event is designed not only for fun but also to foster community spirit, with additional spot prizes to be awarded throughout the day.

Supporting Local Initiatives

The proceeds from this creative fundraising effort will contribute to the maintenance and improvement of facilities at Westport GAA. A portion of the funds will also benefit the club’s charity partner, the Westport Order of Malta, further emphasizing the community-focused nature of this initiative.

Scheduled for September 14, 2023, the Moo Poo event aligns with similar fundraising activities seen across other GAA clubs in Ireland. Just last month, St Faithleach GAA conducted a similar draw, showcasing the innovative approaches clubs are taking to engage their local communities and raise essential funds.

Meanwhile, in another part of the country, Killeshin GAA in Laois successfully raised €15,000 during the Electric Picnic weekend through its Re-Turn scheme. Festival-goers were encouraged to return their empty cans and bottles, with club members collecting an impressive 70,000 cans over three days.

Community Engagement Through Fun

The Moo Poo fundraiser exemplifies how sports clubs like Westport GAA are thinking outside the box to secure necessary funding. Such initiatives not only provide financial support but also create a fun atmosphere that strengthens community ties. The club has expressed excitement about the event, noting the importance of local engagement in sustaining the club’s ongoing activities.

In a social media post, Westport GAA encouraged community members to participate and enjoy a day filled with laughter and camaraderie. The innovative approach to fundraising reflects a broader trend among GAA clubs, which are increasingly leveraging creativity to boost revenues while forging stronger links with their supporters.

As Westport GAA prepares for this unique event, it stands as a testament to the spirit of community and the lengths clubs will go to ensure their sustainability. With the Moo Poo fundraiser, they are not just aiming for financial success but also for a memorable experience that brings people together.
