Glandore Home Listed at €645,000 After 25 Years of Family Life
A family home in Glandore, West Cork, has hit the market for €645,000 after being cherished by its owners for over 25 years. The property, known as An Grianán, is situated on a generous site of approximately 0.75 acres, offering tranquil surroundings and ample space for a growing family.
Tony, a Dubliner, and his wife Therese first discovered Glandore while living overseas. They frequently vacationed in the area due to Therese’s family ties. In a serendipitous encounter at a local pub, they learned about available plots and seized the opportunity to purchase a site in 1993.
“It felt like the middle of a rat race, so we decided to take the plunge and relocate,” Tony said, reflecting on their decision to move back to Ireland. They officially moved into their newly built home just after Valentine’s Day in 2000, constructed by Therese’s brother-in-law.
Glandore’s peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the surrounding nature. The couple planted a lush wall of greenery around their property, creating a private haven that shields them from a nearby church and graveyard. The family enjoyed a life of comfort, with their four children benefiting from a local primary school just a two-minute walk away. The bus to the secondary school in Rosscarbery stops right outside their home, and various beaches, including Warren Strand and Long Strand, are within a 15-minute drive.
The interior of An Grianán reflects a commitment to sustainability and thoughtful design. The country-style kitchen features reclaimed wood and a restored 125-year-old chocolate enamel Franco belge stove. The couple sourced timber for the home from Future Forests, resulting in a warm and inviting living space tailored to their needs.
After nearly three decades in Glandore, the couple has decided to downsize but remain in the area. Their decision to sell comes with mixed emotions, reflecting the many cherished memories made in their home.
Maeve McCarthy from Charles McCarthy estate agents has taken on the listing, highlighting the property’s appeal. “Glandore is one of the most picturesque stops on the Wild Atlantic Way, with its sheltered harbour, excellent restaurants, and thriving sailing club,” McCarthy stated.
The market value of the home is set at an AMV of €645,000, a figure that represents not only the property’s physical attributes but also the rich experiences that have unfolded within its walls. The listing signifies a transition for the couple, who are now ready to pass their cherished home to new owners, inviting them to create their own memories in this beautiful part of Ireland.
