Dublin Woman Launches Fundraiser for Stroke Recovery Support

A Dublin woman is seeking public assistance to help her mother, who requires urgent rehabilitation after suffering a severe stroke that left her paralysed. Marzena Ligas, a 44-year-old mother of two, was hospitalised in January 2023 following a massive stroke. Initially, doctors at Tallaght Hospital provided little hope for her recovery, indicating that she was brain-dead and urging her family to prepare for the worst.
Despite dire predictions, Marzena defied expectations. After slipping into a coma and spending over six weeks on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), she regained consciousness. Her daughter, Natalia Ligas, described the life-altering moment: “Just over a year ago, our lives changed forever when she suddenly suffered a massive stroke. Doctors told us she was ‘basically brain-dead’ and warned that, even if she survived, she would be left in a vegetative state with no quality of life.”
Natalia praised her mother’s resilience, stating, “But our mam has proved time and time again that she is stronger than anyone could have imagined. She woke up. She fought her way back to us.” Despite her remarkable recovery, Marzena now faces significant challenges. She is left with limited mobility and requires private rehabilitation care to improve her quality of life.
To support her mother’s rehabilitation journey, Natalia has set up a GoFundMe account. The funds raised will go towards securing the necessary resources for Marzena’s private rehab care, as public services may not provide the immediate help her family needs. The campaign reflects both the urgency of the situation and the hope for a better future.
Those wishing to contribute to the fundraising effort can do so through the GoFundMe page, where Natalia has shared her mother’s story in detail. The support from the community can play a crucial role in Marzena’s recovery process.
As the Ligas family navigates this challenging time, they remain grateful for any assistance received. The journey ahead may be difficult, but with determination and community support, they hold onto hope for a brighter tomorrow.
