Buncrana Unveils Ambitious Night-Time Economy Action Plan 2025/2026
The Buncrana Night-Time Economy Action Plan for 2025/2026 has been officially launched, aiming to invigorate the town’s after-dark culture and bolster its economy. This initiative, developed by the Donegal County Council, aligns with the recommendations outlined in the national Night-Time Economy Taskforce Report.
At the heart of this action plan are five key pillars: Governance & Sustainability, Transport & Access, Placemaking & Public Realm, Safety & Security, and Activation & Engagement. The objective is to enhance local businesses, improve safety measures, and create more cultural and recreational activities for both residents and visitors after 6 PM.
Key Contributions and Future Directions
The launch event featured notable speakers, including John G. McLaughlin, Chief Executive of Donegal County Council, and Cllr Paul Canning, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council. Their insights emphasized the importance of community involvement in the plan’s implementation.
A keynote address by Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, underscored the government’s commitment to supporting local economies. He highlighted the potential of the night-time economy to create jobs and enhance community spirit.
The action plan will be enacted through 2025 and 2026, supported by a dedicated steering committee and collaboration with national partners. The Night-Time Economy Advisor is set to work closely with the community to ensure that the vision outlined in the plan materializes effectively.
This initiative not only aims to redefine Buncrana’s nightlife but also aspires to create a vibrant social fabric where various activities can flourish, promoting a sense of safety and engagement among the community. As the plan moves forward, it represents a significant step towards fostering a sustainable night-time economy that benefits everyone in the region.
