Niall McNamee Launches Debut Album with Nationwide Irish Tour
Irish actor and musician Niall McNamee is embarking on a comprehensive tour of Ireland to promote his debut album, Glass and Mirrors. The tour kicked off on March 7, 2024, in Leicester and will visit various venues across Ireland, including cities like Dublin, Kilkenny, and Cork.
Influenced by a range of artists such as The Pogues, Oasis, and Coldplay, McNamee’s music blends traditional Irish elements with contemporary alt-rock. He describes his work as a modern interpretation of his heritage, infusing Celtic post-punk with a fresh perspective.
Reflecting on his songwriting process, McNamee shared insights about the title track of the album. “I was pretty depressed when I wrote the song, Glass and Mirrors,” he explained in an interview. “I found writing songs about heartbreak in romantic relationships a real way out of feeling terrible, but that one felt different.” He emphasized that while the song was never intended to be a single, it encapsulated significant aspects of his personal journey.
One of the standout tracks on the album, Clones Fireman, was inspired by his grandparents’ love story. McNamee recounts how his grandfather took a ferry to England, flipping a coin to decide whether to visit London or Birmingham in search of his grandmother. This fortuitous decision led to a swift marriage, showcasing the unpredictable nature of love and fate. “It’s a wild story,” he remarked, adding that this narrative adds depth to his family history.
As McNamee embarks on his first major tour, he expresses a mix of excitement and nostalgia. “I love touring. I love being with my mates, and I love playing to new people,” he stated. The artist noted the unique experience of performing songs that have been released, feeling the connection with an audience as they sing back lyrics he wrote.
The tour will cover 24 dates across the UK and Ireland, bringing McNamee to various cities including Limerick, Galway, Donegal, and Belfast. He acknowledges the long journey it took to reach this point in his career, but the thrill of seeing fans anticipate his music makes it all worthwhile. “When you get on stage and you see that people are waiting for a song that you’ve written, you kind of go, ‘this is what it’s about,’” he concluded.
Niall McNamee’s debut album, Glass and Mirrors, is now available on all major streaming platforms. For those interested in attending his shows, tickets can be purchased through various outlets.
