Galway Launches Urgent €1.2 Million Climate Action Fund Today!
UPDATE: Galway’s local authorities have officially launched their €1.2 million Community Climate Action Funds, designed to empower grassroots initiatives in the fight against climate change. This critical funding aims to support sustainable projects throughout Galway and is available for immediate applications.
The County Council is allocating €762,000 while the City Council has committed €466,000 to this initiative. Not-for-profit organizations, including community groups, Tidy Towns committees, and sports clubs, are encouraged to apply for full financial support for various climate action projects.
Eligible projects include retrofitting buildings, installing solar panels, creating community gardens, promoting local food, tree planting, and developing cycle parking solutions. This funding opportunity is crucial as communities seek to implement innovative climate solutions that can have an immediate impact.
Applications for the County Council funding are now open and will remain available until December 16, 2023. Interested parties can apply through galwaycoco.submit.com. Meanwhile, applications for the City Council funding can be submitted via www.GalwayCity.ie/CommunityClimateActionFund and will close on December 12, 2023.
This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the grassroots efforts needed to tackle climate issues at the community level. Local leaders emphasize the importance of community engagement in driving meaningful climate action.
