Urgent Update: Four Horses Killed in Kilkenny Collision Today
BREAKING: A horrific collision in Kilkenny City has resulted in the tragic deaths of four horses. Emergency services rushed to the scene at approximately 6 AM today on the slip road at Junction 8 on the M9 Southbound. Authorities confirm that a van collided with the horses, raising urgent questions about animal ownership and safety.
The Chair of the Animal Welfare Committee expressed disbelief and outrage, stating, “It was horrifying to see the reports of dead horses in Kilkenny. I want to commend Kilkenny gardaí and fire services for their prompt response to the incident.” Cllr McGuinness is urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward as the investigation unfolds.
Initial reports indicate that the horses were not micro-chipped, which could complicate ownership identification. “Incidents like this really bring responsible horse ownership into question. If this incident is a result of something malicious, then those responsible must be brought to justice,” McGuinness emphasized.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is currently underway, and authorities are working diligently to gather more information. A male involved in the incident is being treated for minor injuries, according to emergency services.
The incident has drawn widespread concern, with Cllr Sean Ó hArgain stating that the deaths are a “huge concern to us all.” As the community grapples with this tragedy, officials are urging anyone with information to contact Kilkenny gardaí at (056) 77 5000.
As this story develops, the implications for animal welfare and responsible ownership are expected to spark further discussions among local authorities and residents. Stay tuned for more updates on this urgent situation as investigations continue.
